Linda Comer (Brown) Class of 1969, doesn't wait for things to happen, she makes them happen. This former cheerleader from Harrison now resides in Texas, but she's never forgotten her ol' friends from high school. This summer she decided to take a trip to Colorado Springs. So this past Memorial Day, she sat up a mini reunion for a few of her friends. She began inviting former classmates using our Harrison High All Year Reunion Website and face book. The idea took off and her former classmates were elated and couldn’t wait to get together.
They met up at Old Chicago, off Academy, had dinner and drinks and told stories and had the time of their lives! They had a wonderful time, and they plan on doing it again. Great job Linda!!
The HHS All Year Reunion Committee encourages you to have some fun, reconnect and create some wonderful memories. If you are planning an event let us know so that we can help get the word out. We'd love to hear your stories, getting together with old friends and meeting new ones is what we are all about!!
Way to go Linda!!!!!

I was just going to be in Colorado Springs over Memorial Day, as I live in Texas, so I started contacting people on the Harrison website and also on Facebook. Since it was a holiday weekend there were several that were out of town. I asked some of them where a good place would be to meet, and we ended up at Old Chicago, on Academy. We had dinner and drinks and told stories and laughed so hard! The majority of us used to live in Stratton Meadows, so we used to hang together, even in grade school. It was a GREAT time, and we're planning to do it again.

Well those former graduates of Harrison High School in Colorado Springs are at it again and they want you to participate as well. Yup, peer pressure!
Greg Farley, Toni Behnke, Connie King, Mo Orosco and Teila Tankersley came up with a fun idea. We are putting together Harrison High School’s first Alumni Cook book!
The book will be professionally created by a repuatable company, professional quality.
We would like you to seriously consider sending in a few of your favorite recipes. Who knows if we have enough receipes we might make it into a couple of volumes.
We will have six books, listed below. When you send in your recipe let us know which book you feel your recipe best lines up with. You can submit a dessert, a main dish and anything under the sun and just let us know which catagory listed below that might best describe your recipe.

Your submission must include a photo of you with your recipe, along with your full name, year that you graduated and tell us what you do. (for example are you retired, teacher, lawyer, clerk or waiter).
We are asking for ideas on a name for our cookbook, send in your suggestion along with your name and year you graduated and include a three sentence bio of yourself. The proceeds for the sale of this book will go to the HHS Athletics Dept directed by Coach Hogan. (Dave Hogan has done so much for the school and has gone out of his way to support the HHS Alumni, this will be the first opportunity that we've had to give something back to the Athletic Dept for Coach Hogan)
This is an alumni project put out there in an effort to have some fun and create a few great cook books!
So what do you think, start sending in your recipes. The deadline is November 1, 2010 so start sending them in and don’t forget to attach the photo of you with your recipe.
(This is an alumni idea that has been brought to the HHS All Year Reunion committee in an effort to promote and post. But it is the sole responsibility of the following individuals to put the project together and to make certain that the HHS Athletic dept receives the profits. Those individuals are Greg Farley, Toni Behnke, Connie King and Teila Tankersley.)

White House Cook Book: Archive.org
A recipe is a list of ingredients with directions for preparing or arranging them to get a particular outcome. It is most often used in cooking, but can also be used in such areas as craft mixtures. Although the list of ingredients in a recipe cannot be copyrighted, the directions are copyrightable.
The Facts
- According to the U. S. Copyright Office, a list of ingredients alone cannot be copyrighted. A copyright is extended to the unique writings of a writer, not the title or a specific idea of how a recipe will be produced.
Ingredients
- Recipes usually include a list of ingredients to work with. The list alone cannot be copyrighted, which is why certain popular recipes or specific combinations of food may be printed in different cookbooks. For example '1 cup tea, 1 slice lemon' alone can easily be found in multiple cookbooks. It is the description of how they are assembled, put together or used that makes a recipe unique to the writer.
Literary Expression
- Whereas the list of ingredients cannot be copyrighted, the procedure could be. Taking the example of tea and lemon, if an author provides instructions about how to steep tea and add the lemon, another writer cannot repeat the same procedure word for word and publish it as her own. The intellectual effort the original writer gave to create the dish in a certain way makes it different from another recipe with the same ingredients. Each writer has her own voice and tone on how to prepare and finish a recipe.
Cookbooks
- Cookbooks contain multiple recipes and information on preparing foods. Generally, a cookbook is an original compilation and can be copyrighted. Only the publisher or author may give permission to republish recipes from a cookbook, unless it is in the public domain.
Public Domain
- In the United States, cookbooks and recipes that were written before 1923 are in the public domain. This means the recipes can be reprinted. Once a recipe enters the public domain there is no infringement on copyright for reprinting it.
Tweaking a Recipe
- Although many recipes have similar or the same ingredients, it is the description of how those are prepared that makes a recipe copyrightable. You can adapt a published recipe with these suggestions to make it your own and thus avoid copyright infringement issues. Add a favorite ingredient or brand name instead of those listed. Show the reader how to make the recipe using a different appliance. Use your own voice and write out the steps as you prepare the recipe. You may have a better, quicker or more efficient way to prepare the dish or you may put the ingredients together in a different way.

A New Vice President for the HHS Alumni Committee
The HHS Alumni Committee has some recent changes. Darrin Sevilla our Vice President, who has been with us since the beginning back in August 2008, has recently resigned.
Darrin brought with him a lot of enthusiasm and creativity to the group. He was a valuable asset to the committee and although he has resigned as VP, he still intends on staying a part of the HHS Alumni but on a much smaller scale. The committee wishes to thank Darrin for all his hard work, tears, sweat and laughter; he is one of a kind, a wonderful guy! Darrin brought a “kick back” fun attitude to the committee and we are sorry to see him go but extremely grateful for the time he was able to provide us with. We have enormous respect for Darrin.
Taking his place will be Mike McGee a graduate from the class of 1982 and a native of Colorado Springs. As many of you know he was our entertainment director for the 2009 “All Year Reunion”. Mike has been in the Dist #2 area since 3rd grade where he attended PP Elementary, 4th grade at Centennial and 5th & 6th at Gilberson. He attended Panorama Jr High before attending and graduating Harrison High School in “1982”.
After high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force and became an air traffic controller. He spent his first tour at Aviano Air Base, in Italy before finishing up at Luke AFB in Arizona. Mike attended the FAA (federal aviation administration) Academy in 1989 and spent the first 8.5 years as a civilian air traffic controller in Southern California before transferring back to Colorado Springs in 1997 where he still works traffic today. Mike has attended all his class reunions and was responsible for pulling together their 20th and 25th reunions.
Mike will wear multiple hats during the next three to four years as part of the HHS Alumni committee, he will head up our non-profit sub committee, get the scholarship committee off the ground and running and last but not least he will remain active on our entertainment committee.
Please welcome in Mike McGee and send a memo off to Darrin and let him know how much you appreciated him!
Sincerely,
Michael Wilson, President
Connie King, Treasurer
Teila Tankersley, Web Master

We are pleased to announce that the Class of The Class of ’57 is donating $1000 to the athletic department at Harrison and Class of ’57 member Ron Roehrich is matching that donation with personal funds.
The HHS Athletic department is taking the money and remodeling it's athletic training room. The total cost of the project is approximately $4,100.
Here is our opportunity to help out our ol' High School, if there is anyone who would like to donate to this special project, it would be appreciated.
Our hats off to the Class of 1957 and Ron Roehrich for this wonderful gesture!
In November of 2009 the HHS All Class Reunion Committee provided the HHS Leadership Club with a check of $250.00 for helping out with the All Year Reunion of 2009. We appreciate the both the teachers and students at Harrison for all their positive support!
